Katavi & Mahale Chimps safari

Morning take a flight from Dar to western Tanzania – Katavi National Park – 4471 sq km, the third biggest national park in the country.
Transferred from Katavi Airstrip to your overnight accommodation.

Game drive in the Park which covers big grassland savanna plains, woodland, marshlands, rough hills, lakes, and rivers when combined with neighboring game reserves of Rukwa, Luafi, and Lukwati form a great eco-system. There is a strong population of elephants, giraffes, Buffaloes, waterbucks, and hartebeests as well as predators such as Hyena and Pride of Lions which are simply seen while Leopard, cheetah, and wild dog can also be seen. In dry months from July to October hundreds of hippo crowd into the remaining waterholes and rivers while crocodiles sun themselves on the banks.
The area has few permanent camps with a few visitors a year.
Overnight stay at Mbalimbali tented camp where you will spend 3nights in a tented suite with a private veranda for a good view. The camp is well located for a game-rich area in the park.

You will be excited to go out for untamed wilderness. The park set in an extension of the Rift valley between Lake Tanganyika and Lake Rukwa in southwest Tanzania.  Enjoy wildly and remote magnificent safari destination.  Less tourist ventures this park than others in Tanzania giving chance to experience the magic of Africa at its most unspoiled.

Explore African bush on foot is the ultimate adventure giving you the chance to see wildlife closer.  The walking safari is escorted by an armed park ranger. The longer trail is over 5 hours to complete while the Sitalike Trail is shorter distances so you can choose something manageable. There is more than 9 miles trails through the park’s forest lead to scenic viewpoint overlooking Rukwa valley.  This trail pass three waterfalls.

Note: the best time to do hiking is at the beginning of dry season-from May. When the waterfalls still roaring but you don’t have to deal with storms upsetting your trek.

Mahale Mountains National Park in Tanzania-Africa is top choice in Western Tanzania sits next to the longest freshwater Lake in the world, Lake Tanganyika.  It’s difficult to imagine a more idyllic combination, clear, blue waters and white-sand beaches backed by lushly forested mountains soaring straight out of Lake Tanganyika, and some of the continent’s most interesting wildlife watching.

The park located in Uvinza district of Kigoma region, lies on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika, named after Mahale mountains range that is within its border.  Mahale mountain National park harbors the largest population of eastern chimpanzees due to its size and remoteness the chimpanzee flourish.

For those who enjoy remoteness beautiful landscapes and wildlife Mahale is a place to visit in all of Africa.
The main attraction is Chimpanzees which makes this area unique, presence in the thick forests cover its slope. Jane Goodall made the area famous and has done much-highlighting knowledge of the Chimpanzees and sponsors their conservation. Close watching by these scientific studies have made chimpanzee approachable allowing he unique and rare experience. Apart from chimpanzees, the Lake itself is pretty beautiful and home to plentiful bird and marine life.

Mahale national park has several unusual characteristics.  It is one of the very few in Africa that must be experienced by foot.  Also a place where lion and chimpanzee co-exist.

It is one of the two protected areas for chimpanzees in the country and other is nearby Gombe stream National park, which made famous by researcher Jane Goodall.
